Today is a MOAR SNOW OH GOOD GRIEF day, and everything is still drenched in white out there. I too was drenched when I got to work, thanks to a two and a half mile walk from home. The latest pictures are all under the cut, and show just how thickly it was coming down here.

In other news, you know how it can be hard to find really good Genfic when you need it? Criminal Minds fandom, I'm looking at you in particular, but Torchwood, you've got nothing to be proud of. Anyway, apparently someone else feels the same, because prompts are now being taken for a Gen battle, along the lines of the regular Porm battles. Woot! Prompts are open until the 11th, posting opens on the 14th and the battle closes on the 28th. Loads of time!

Rules are here, leave prompts here and do give it a shout on your journal for any Genficcers. And if you don't normally write Gen, why not give it a go? The more fandoms, the merrier!

Here in London, it is cold and damp and wet. I'll swap your weather for ours, if you like? :) Mind you, I'm off to Grantham for the weekend and heaven knows what it'll be like there or if I'll be spending 3 days stranded on a train....

Yes, plug that gen battle! I've already left some TW prompts and am about to leave more (you can always spot me, even anon, as I'm the only one flying the flag for historical!TW). There really needs to be more gen out there, even if it's an alien concept for many these days! :D

(c'mon folks, leave some nice TW prompts so I'm not just writing from my own.... ;))

I think I'll stick with the snow, thanks. I looked kind of like the abominable librarian when I arrived at work, but at least it's pretty to look at. Hope the train makes it through!

It's not just me noticing the lack of Gen, then? I mean, CM is appalling for finding any Gen, let alone the good stuff - I can count the authors on one hand, pretty much - but I've been getting the feeling that other fandoms are the same now. I honestly don't mind the volume of slash, but it'd be nice to have an equal volume of Gen. Mind you, we're still better off than the Het folks, who hardly seem to get a look in :S

(Hee! I left some for the women in my various fandoms, since my brain is still in [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon mode, but I may go back with more later...)

It stopped for a while, but came down again over lunchtime. So it's mostly still pretty :)

'Battle' is a bit of a misnomer, but it's a good chance to get extra inspiration and lots of porn or gen in one place!

I've read the rules, but I don't understand what makes it a "battle." It doesn't sound like there's any competition. (Which is fine by me, I was just confused by the name.)

I'm getting jealous of your snow! :) It's lovely, and you take pretty pictures.

I think there may have been some "who can write the most!" competition back when such things started out, but the Porn Battles have certainly grown so huge that I think everyone lost count. :) Still, as a term I prefer it to "drabble tag", which rarely seems to involve actual 100-word drabbles.... ;)

(and I guess there's the battle with yourself to try to get longer bits to juuuust fit in the comment box - I know I end up fiddling with punctuation more often than not!)

Aeshna's is a much better explanation of the 'battle' than I could offer :)

The snow's lovely, if treacherous to walk in. And it's still falling...

Genfic is a rare beast. I just looked into the Leverage fandom (which is VERY new, just airing it's 10th or so eppy here) and didn't find any gen. At all. Even drabble were at least preslash. But there was a TON of noncon and bondage. *sighs and slips away VERY quickly*

Pretty pictures! Although, that's a long walk in that kind of weather!

I've seen a lot about Leverage, mostly enthusiastic. Slash does seem to be assumed as a default in most fandoms nowadays. There are probably fannish history reasons for it, and since most sources are technically Gen (or het) I don't really begrudge the slashers their place to play. It would just be nice if we could play too :S

It was a *really* long walk and I was soaked through, but it was fun :D

It's 65 degrees F here that like -what?- 18C. And no snow!! It was -3F yesterday when I got up (I guess that would be like a -18 for you) and now were in shorts and tshirts!!! Of course we're suppose to get thundersnow next week (thunderstorm while it snows). The world is becoming very strange weather-wise.

Eep! That's *seriously* cold. We're supposed to get down to -10 in some parts of the county over the weekend, which is extremely unusual for us. I did see someone wearing shorts in the parks this morning. Mad people.

Thundersnow sounds less fun :S Stay safe!
