I just tried to use my mobile phone as a mouse for my computer.

Disappointingly, nothing happened apart from it beeping at me.

Welcome to Monday.

ETA: People who write 'idiot's guides' to geeky stuff (linux, CSS etc). You are not dim enough to do this. Seriously. You think you're speaking English, but you're still speaking Geek. You have to realise that when you try to make something better for idiots, all the world does is build a better idiot. At the moment, that idiot is me.

(Before anyone jumps in to help me, I'm in the process of sorting it out, thanks. I'm just increasingly frustrated by people not explaining the very basic principles ("this is what CSS does" "this is what you are doing when you type into a Terminal box") before launching into their how-to guides. Grrrr!)

I once packed my remote control instead of my mobile for my bag for work. Believe me, remotes don't take calls. I tried *facepalms*

You know, I was looking at that and wondering what's wrong with that and it took me about 5 minutes to realised what you meant.

See, I CAN use my mobile as a mouse for my computer via bluetooth and have in fact use it quite frequently as sort of a remote control for my old MacMini that didn't come with the Apple Remote thing when I'm in bed and wanted to play a different movie/show on the player and being too lazy to move...

So yeah, that didn't really look wrong to me, to be using a mobile as a mouse. :P

CSS is a foreign language that continues to confound me! I'm sticking with Klingon; it's easier!

I shall see if I have to learn anything uber-geeky to go with the nice new eeepc that I've just treated myself to (in purple, no less) to replace my ancient brick of a laptop with the 4Gb hd.

Ooh, shiny! Is it a Linux one? The version on my Acer is very easy to get to grips with, and the people at the main forum are very good about assuming I know nothing, but I know the HP version is a bit of a pig.

But if you mostly just typing and surfing, you shouldn't have to do anything to it. Have fun!

Mondays are overrated.

I consider myself a geek, and CSS still makes my head spin. I have yet to find a really good guide that explained commands, etc like the HTML tutorials I learned on.

And indeed, it is Monday. *passes more coffee*

Oh yes, computer programmers should *never* be allowed to write manuals. Ever. I drove myself nuts yesterday trying to figure out how to perform a function in one of my (Linux) programs, and the manual was no help whatsoever.

I remember writing an idiot's guide for something while I was a Christian Union Rep. It was actually kind of hard to sit down and assume the person knew nothing about organising a weekend away, but I really didn't, and there was nothing to help me! The number of assumptions people make about knowledge always astounds me. Even Linux for Dummies was too advanced. I need a real idiot's guide that not only tells me what to type, but why I'm typing it. In words of one syllable and nothing that resembles Geekese! [/rant]

It's so frustrating to not be able to understand the basic stuff. I just keep reminding myself that I'm not stupid and that I'm going to beat this! If I can install a program on Linux, I can do anything :D

Hee. I think as long as you stop and think 'what would people who know *nothing* need to know', you're fine to write it as an expert. But all jargon needs to be explained at the beginning, and it's not wrong to treat people like idiots when you're writing an idiot's guide! I'd trust you with it :D
