Library Things
Mar. 19th, 2009 05:16 pmI'm still debating as to whether these should actually go in a different place, but since I can't face the thought of opening a 3rd blog right at this moment, they'll go here for now. My plan is to keep this primarily a fannish blog and shift my professional stuff somewhere else eventually but right now, that's possibly more blogging than I can handle.
The links are mostly for my reference, since I need to improve my professional awareness and because I'm genuinely interested in these things. If I put all the links here, I'll be able to find them when I need them. Or at least that's the theory.
From the New York Times: Hard times are seeing an increase in library usage and Artwork that's bringing Bronx children into libraries
500,000 books are to be made e-available through the Google Books project (but only for Sony readers, sorry :S)
Ongoing concerns about the Google Books settlement
Web 2.0 for the legal profession. The Common Sense approach to it - ie, do it if you want to and have time, don't if you don't. Similarly, Five Things Every Legal Practice Should Know About Web 2.0. Sensible, practical advice, and even more about integrating it into your business.
A (surely deliberately) provocative article about the merit of public libraries (ie free books for all!), including the wonderful statement "The internet, of course, where the entire world is increasingly available." I'll save the comments about useful information retrieval for another post.
A nice 'well duh' post about Why Web 2.0 projects fail
And some ones that you might like:
Considering what
bironic's been asking about lately, this article about the 'free economy' on the web (although if anyone ever catches me using the word 'freemium' in every day speech, you have my permission to shoot me)
And for those of you in that part of the world, the San Francisco Public Library is holding an exhibition about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence from March 20 to May 7.
OOOOOOOOH! Shiny. Shame it's only available for businesses right now...
