IT IS A COMPULSION

IT IS NOT MY FAULT

Apparently I should not be allowed in libraries on my own. I just dropped in to pick up a Cole Porter music book and a novel for the other half (both of which I got). So why did I also come away with:

The Man on the Balcony by Maj Sjowall & Per Wahloo ([personal profile] naye forgive me, I can't get the accents on my keyboard :S)
Little Black Book of Stories by A S Byatt
The Vesuvius Club by Mark Gattiss

?

Anybody?

This is not going to end well, I can just tell. Remind me to remind myself to renew them...

Libraries are like a candy store for sugar addicts. They're just *flaunting* their books. We can't be held responsible. :)

I've been wanting to read The Vesuvius Club!

Heh, yes, that's the only possible explanation.

I'll make it next on my list after 'Capote in Kansas' (which is an excellent, easy read) and let you know what it's like!

Can you renew them online? Our local library is not that advanced yet but allows renewal by telephone, which I think is very civilized.

Oh yes. We can renew online or by phone. As long as, you know, we remember when they're due back... *sigh*

This is why my local library system rocks like a rockin' thing: I get an email a few days before they're due. Until that little miracle I kept fearing that my face was on a Wanted poster in the staff break room.

The university libraries do that, but not the public one, sadly.

I think I'm probably their favourite person right now, since the amount I end up paying in fines is probably enough to keep them in tea and biscuits for quite a while!

Ours is the opposite - the university library doesn't send notices (or even include a card or paper in the book telling you when it's due) but the public library does both. It's really helpful. Fortunately, as faculty on campus, I get to keep books for a whole semester if I want, so it's pretty easy to remember.

Heh, it's next on my list after I finish "Capote in Kansas" which is awesomely brilliant.

YOU GOT THE VESUVIUS CLUB!!!! *flails at you* I LOVE that book.

I haven't read the sequel yet - I think I bought it, but it's buried deep in my 'to read' pile, which puts the leaning Tower of Pisa to shame...

*g* I'll let you know how I get on with it. I'm loving 'Capote in Kansas' right now, so it's got a lot to live up to!
