IT IS A COMPULSION

IT IS NOT MY FAULT

Apparently I should not be allowed in libraries on my own. I just dropped in to pick up a Cole Porter music book and a novel for the other half (both of which I got). So why did I also come away with:

The Man on the Balcony by Maj Sjowall & Per Wahloo ([personal profile] naye forgive me, I can't get the accents on my keyboard :S)
Little Black Book of Stories by A S Byatt
The Vesuvius Club by Mark Gattiss

?

Anybody?

This is not going to end well, I can just tell. Remind me to remind myself to renew them...

I love radio programmes that can make a verbal joke using punctuation :)

My good mood has more or less lasted, despite being horrendously tired this morning. *yawns* This was helped more than a little by choir last night, which was excellent. The atmosphere is relaxed – trying hard at the music but not taking things too seriously – and the standard is good. Most of all, people were incredibly friendly, not waiting for me to say hello before introducing themselves, and happy to just sit and natter in the break. All in all, a great experience although one that leaves me with a dilemma. ExpandIn a good way! )

Before choir, I had to return an enormous pile of books to the library and pay my fine, and I swore I'd only get one or two other books out. Thirteen's not that far off two, right? *looks shifty* I've started Capote in Kansas by Kim Powers, and it's absolutely brilliant. Very much my kind of writing and a fascinating story. More when I've finished it.

For interest, the rest of the books are Expandunder the cut )

Disturbingly, my desk is more or less clear at the moment, so I'm falling back on longstanding jobs, which is probably a good thing. This looks like a long list, but it's all little things really:

~ Create East Asia Fund
~ DASH/BLASH report
~ Mooting videos
~ Invoices
~ Serial POs
~ Check order folder

~ Transcribe beta for Donut
~ Red Letter Day

With the sun shining, this all feels like it might be manageable, plus TOMORROW IS THE WEEKEND *\o/* SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

How's everyone else doing? Plans for the weekend?

No mouse sightings for 48 hours, so I think we got the blighter, and I'm starting to settle down a little. It'll be nice to go back to work for a rest. Of course, one of the first things I plan to do is print out all the fic I want to read so I've got plenty of material for Morocco (I'm also taking Cryptonomicon, The Music of the Primes and [livejournal.com profile] apiphile's Pass the Parcel, for variety's sake). My current plan is to go through [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang, [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang and [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa and pick up everything I want to read. I'd love to do Yuletide as well, but I think there's enough there to keep me busy for a while. If you're on my flist, I'm reading it (so ner) but does anyone have any other recs for me? I'm going to have lots of time for a change and intend to make the most of it!

My fic list for 2008 is still a WiP and I also have a WiP list that itself is a WiP, along with all the stories that I keep under the heading (I kid you not) "Twinkles in the Writer's Eye". So while I'm doing that, can I recommend the following meme to the rest of you? I had to skip to page 6 of comments to find a fandom I'd heard of, but I have dome *some* reading this year and would love to give you all a Start Of Year Ego Boost.

the fanficcers love meme, continued

Right. I'm off to sort out stuff so that the flat looks more like a liveable environment than the victim of a mouse-hunt. Hope everyone's having a good Sunday and that work isn't too awful for thems that starts again tomorrow.
