I only made it to skip=400, people. Have you all been away as well?

It's so nice to be back, although I have a head full of STUFF that needs dealing with at some point, and a flat full of STUFF that needs putting away, tidying up, washing or filling out. As long as I don't get them mixed up, I should be fine.

How's everyone doing? Not that there's ever anyone around on a Sunday, but still. *waves* Y'all alright? Anything exciting happen while I was gone? I'll give you a full report of the conference later, but suffice it to say that I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would, and have enough food for thought to see me through the long summer.

Please do link me to stuff - yours or other people's - that you think I might like. [livejournal.com profile] major_jim is still up to his eyeballs in thesis, so I need distracting.

Hope everyone's well! Do drop in - I'll keep the coffee coming and am making banana bread for whoever wants it (actually, if anyone has any good banana cake recipes, I'd love to know...)

(Thalia, Hllangel, I got ALL the emails and will be in touch once the flat no longer looks like it was attacked by a small, messy whirlwind)

ETA: Shopping has been achieved! Tidying is next, but I need more fortifying first. Also, I've discovered that one of my Tweets was re-tweeted on a 'good_education' Twitter account (the one about spelling that did nasty things to my blood pressure). I've never been RT'd before. It's a very odd feeling, especially when you only find out 2 days later.

If anyone's listened to any good motivational music/programmes lately, I'd love to know about them. It could be a long day *rolls up sleeves*

ETA2: For three days, someone has presented me with food of some form and all I had to do was eat it. The fact that I'm now bursting out of my 'fat' trousers is testament to this. But I appear to have forgotten how to prepare my own food. The kitchen is a baffling place.

ETA3

Things achieved so far:
- Menu plan for week
- Shopping
- Lunch
- Unpacking
- Tidying of bedroom
- Large pile of recycling
- Changing MP3s around on player
- Clearing all the stuff I just dumped on the sofa
- Tidy the kitchen
- Hoover everything
- Ring Mother
- Cooking for the week - Burgers, bolognese, chilli. Jambalaya can wait til Wednesday

Things yet to be achieved:
- Dust everything - BWAH yeah right...
- Fill out insurance forms - To do when [livejournal.com profile] major_jim gets home
- Baking
- Stuff for work tomorrow
- Anything that needs doing for [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang/emails
- [livejournal.com profile] bau_bigbang stuff
- Fic decisions
- [livejournal.com profile] writers_lair links (needs to be done this week, but I've only just remembered about them and need to write it down somewhere)

YOU ARE BACK
*twirls you*

Feels like you've been gone a g e s!

I have nothing.

Thalia has been an absolute ROCK for me, by the way, this week (and last, come to that) - a rocking ROCK with added awesome!

(I only have a bog standard Woman and Home type banana bread recipe - I am told it is nice - I wouldn't know, I can't eat it, I don't like the way it smells...)

*twirls* It's so nice to be back properly!

Thalia is more or less the definition of awesome, TRUFAX.

I have too much and don't know where to start!

(heh, well, when you sell it to me like that... ;) I've dug out some recipes from the internet, so will report back!)

My father was an incredibly good salesman - I am totally pants at it - I probably couldn't even sell water to a someone dying of thirst:

"You want this water? It's not very good... It tastes 'chalky.' You'll find better water three miles in that direction - just take a left at that next sand dune..."

Ah, the thrilling lives we lead. I'm off to Sainsbury's, then going to try to get the filing in the file. The floor makes a very bad filing system...

I've been to Sainsbury's already! And I *just* had to clear my floor based filing system off the ground as someone else is giving my mother her lunch today!

I'm here, applying for a job online. This whole covering letter thing is a pain.... Should try to get my brain back into writing mode later - it's been taking a holiday since the Big Bang got turned in on Tuesday!

Banana bread recipes - this one always works well for me:

- heat oven to 180C.
- spray/grease loaf tin.
- sieve 200g of self-raising flour and 1/4 tsp of bicarbonate of soda together in a mixing bowl.
- melt 75g of butter/margarine in the microwave (about 20s usually does it!); mix in 75g of white sugar and 1 level tbsp honey.
- beat 2 eggs in a bowl and gradually add them to the butter/sugar mix, beating well the whole time.
- gently stir this mixture into the flour until it all comes together.
- mash 2 bananas (old manky ones work quite nicely!) in a bowl, then stir into the cake mix.
- spoon mixture into greased loaf tin; sprinkle top with sugar and powdered cinnamon.
- bake for 1 hour.

Ooh, that sounds nice, thanks. I'll try this and some muffins, just for comparison. And yes, we do suck at eating bananas in time ;)

I feel your pain on the covering letter front - hope you've got it done!

It's a pain because they give a huge list of selection criteria and then ask you to "provide specific examples from your work experience, achievements, knowledge and/or skills that demonstrate how you meet each of the criteria listed, point by point."

Which would be fine, except they then give you 4000 characters to do it in. *headdesk*

Oh well, it's not as if I expected better from these jokers, and as it's the job they tried to shuffle me sideways into in February (before HR realised that the Powers That Be wanted a full job description before employing someone), I'm hoping to at least get an interview!

Your list makes me feel like it's okay that I didn't get all I needed to get done done, because someone out there is being incredibly efficient! ♥ (Though your To Do is vaguely terrifying!)

Today is summer solstice! I celebrated by getting bitten by mosquitoes in my quest to commune a little with nature. XD (Nature is very hot and sticky right now. I think I'm better off communing with my air conditioner, since temperatures over 30C make me melt...!)

In other words - nothing interesting to report, but checking in anyway, just because. ♥

And I'm pretty sure everyone's already seen this vid a lot (with twenty one million hits, someone's been watching), and I've linked to it before, but I love it so much I'm going to link to it again. Dancing. Because it's good to be reminded of how awesome we humans can be.

Hee! I seem to go from one extreme to the other. Sometimes I can't get *anything* done, but once I get on a roll, it's hard to stop me! Plus, some of the things are small and easy, so it's nice to have things I can cross off right away.

I've been very aware of the longer days, especially while in Manchester - just 3 hours north makes a big difference on the day-length. It's so lovely, and since it's giving me energy in ways I'm not used to, I'm taking full advantage of it.

*g* You're always welcome here, interesting stories or not ♥ Especially when you come bearing links! I'll check it out later when I get off the laptop. Thanks!

I am doing well. I cleaned the fridge yesterday! Today there is more cleaning to be done but also some spending time with a friend and boxing up parcels, so I'm feeling happy-busy. My major accomplishment of whilst you've been gone is to decide that after I've done the flat-tidying that has needed to happen for a bit I shall institute a 30-minute-on-alternating-days writing block. Because I haven't written much lately and I'm wanting to write and I actually have the time at the moment, if I set it aside all official-like.

I am glad you had a good conference, that is wonderful!

I don't have any fiction links to drop your way, sorry! But please do pass on my best wishes to [livejournal.com profile] major_jim and his thesis.

As for banana bread recipes, this one is quite tasty: http://codenamebacon.wetpaint.com/page/Harvest+Bread but it also takes a while to prep, so I don't make it too often. But I have carrots and frozen bananas and some free time this evening, so maybe I'll make it later... You can also make it into muffins just by pouring into muffin tins.

Sorry to have nattered on so much, I'll blame the caffeine :)

Welcome back!!

Hm, I have a bit of a list of things to accomplish before I go away for a week and it seems to get longer and longer as the days go by. : )

Anyway, as for linking you to stuff, I'm in the beginnings of a fic involving Ten and Donna along with an original character whom I plan to introduce to each incarnation. Anyway, what I've posted will probably be a prologue. I've had one vote to place the rest of the story in the future but I still need to work things out, If you want to give it a once over and give me some ideas, it will be appreciated.
