I only made it to skip=400, people. Have you all been away as well?

It's so nice to be back, although I have a head full of STUFF that needs dealing with at some point, and a flat full of STUFF that needs putting away, tidying up, washing or filling out. As long as I don't get them mixed up, I should be fine.

How's everyone doing? Not that there's ever anyone around on a Sunday, but still. *waves* Y'all alright? Anything exciting happen while I was gone? I'll give you a full report of the conference later, but suffice it to say that I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would, and have enough food for thought to see me through the long summer.

Please do link me to stuff - yours or other people's - that you think I might like. [livejournal.com profile] major_jim is still up to his eyeballs in thesis, so I need distracting.

Hope everyone's well! Do drop in - I'll keep the coffee coming and am making banana bread for whoever wants it (actually, if anyone has any good banana cake recipes, I'd love to know...)

(Thalia, Hllangel, I got ALL the emails and will be in touch once the flat no longer looks like it was attacked by a small, messy whirlwind)

ETA: Shopping has been achieved! Tidying is next, but I need more fortifying first. Also, I've discovered that one of my Tweets was re-tweeted on a 'good_education' Twitter account (the one about spelling that did nasty things to my blood pressure). I've never been RT'd before. It's a very odd feeling, especially when you only find out 2 days later.

If anyone's listened to any good motivational music/programmes lately, I'd love to know about them. It could be a long day *rolls up sleeves*

ETA2: For three days, someone has presented me with food of some form and all I had to do was eat it. The fact that I'm now bursting out of my 'fat' trousers is testament to this. But I appear to have forgotten how to prepare my own food. The kitchen is a baffling place.

I'm here, applying for a job online. This whole covering letter thing is a pain.... Should try to get my brain back into writing mode later - it's been taking a holiday since the Big Bang got turned in on Tuesday!

Banana bread recipes - this one always works well for me:

- heat oven to 180C.
- spray/grease loaf tin.
- sieve 200g of self-raising flour and 1/4 tsp of bicarbonate of soda together in a mixing bowl.
- melt 75g of butter/margarine in the microwave (about 20s usually does it!); mix in 75g of white sugar and 1 level tbsp honey.
- beat 2 eggs in a bowl and gradually add them to the butter/sugar mix, beating well the whole time.
- gently stir this mixture into the flour until it all comes together.
- mash 2 bananas (old manky ones work quite nicely!) in a bowl, then stir into the cake mix.
- spoon mixture into greased loaf tin; sprinkle top with sugar and powdered cinnamon.
- bake for 1 hour.

Ooh, that sounds nice, thanks. I'll try this and some muffins, just for comparison. And yes, we do suck at eating bananas in time ;)

I feel your pain on the covering letter front - hope you've got it done!

It's a pain because they give a huge list of selection criteria and then ask you to "provide specific examples from your work experience, achievements, knowledge and/or skills that demonstrate how you meet each of the criteria listed, point by point."

Which would be fine, except they then give you 4000 characters to do it in. *headdesk*

Oh well, it's not as if I expected better from these jokers, and as it's the job they tried to shuffle me sideways into in February (before HR realised that the Powers That Be wanted a full job description before employing someone), I'm hoping to at least get an interview!
