Clearly LJ needs to know this.

My throat hurts so badly that I can barely swallow. The pain is right at the top behind my nose, which has had me waving my hands like a mad woman, because I kind of want to rub it better except I can't because...you know...it's inside my head. This is a definite design flaw. I think it's just a cold - I'm not running a fever or anything like that, I just feel run down - but if it gets worse overnight, I'm going to have to think carefully about my London trip tomorrow.

*sigh* How does my body know these things, and make me sick just before something I really want to do? I'm due to visit a law firm library and have dinner with my mum tomorrow. I can just imagine how thrilled everyone on the train will be if I get on sniffing and sneezing.

But I'll worry about that in the morning. For the moment, I just have to work out how to swallow without giving myself earache.

OWWWWWW :(

My dad swears by a hot salt-water gargle for a sore throat.

::hugs::

*leans* yeah, I know that in theory, but in practice, that tends to make me throw up, so I'll stick to super-hot rooibos tea for now ;) As long as it doesn't get worse, I should be fine *crosses fingers* Thanks hon.

Yeah, throwing up would definitely defeat the purpose. I prefer the tea option, myself. I hope you feel better and can take your trip!

oh no! I very much hope it's a 24 hour thing and you'll feel much better by morning. Honey and lemon with grated ginger, if you can get it (and the thought doesn't make you want to hurl), and lots of rest.

*hugs*

Thanks. That sounds lovely, if we had any honey, lemon or ginger ;) I have very hot rooibos, which is helping somewhat, although I kind of feel I need to sniff it as much as drink it!

*hugs back* Yuk.

Aww sweetheart...

*sends honey and hot lemon*

*drinks gratefully* Thanks, hon.

Honey and hot lemon, as everyone else has said - works wonders, although don't drink too much or you'll be hyper and flu-ey (this may or may not be the voice of experience).

Failing that, gargling with dispersible aspirin or salt water - the aspirin will reduce any swelling, or the salt water will kill any bugs. I can only gargle really quickly with these two though, as both options make me want to throw up :S

The standard Bradford/West Yorkshire cure for a bad throat/stuffy head is a hot curry - hot as you can stand without causing yourself injury. Kills all known germs, plus the veg replenishes your vit C \o/

Heh, I'll remember not to try all three at once...

Actually, gargling of any kind tends to make me throw up, so I'll probably pass on that one and stick with seriously hot rooibos, at least until I can get some lemons.

Curry would be an awesome plan if I wasn't roasting a chicken for dinner. We're making it into pasta salad, so maybe we could put some chilli in there too...

Thanks, hon. Hopefully I'll be all better by Friday!

*sends orange juice and chicken soup over to Jades*

I'm hoping this will pass off and you won't be any worse tomorrow.

Hee, thanks hon. I was just thinking "gosh, I feel better" then worked out that it might be due to lying on the sofa with a blanket and a hot laptop for the past hour...

At least I can sleep on the train, and take Thursday off work if it comes to it. Noting exciting ever happens on a Thursday.

Oh, poor you. Hope you feel better soon (and that it's not the Dreaded Pigflu - I know it's been going around the Manor Rd building but so far I think we've escaped it!).
