I'm terribly listless today, which I think is a combination of sheer tiredness and Stuff that's going on that I have no control over. It's going to be a long week, in that respect at least.

On the other hand, I wrote 4 pages on the train yesterday, so at least one part of my brain still works. It's a Criminal Minds future!fic, and while I like the idea, I'm having trouble with character-wrangling. Serious editing is going to be needed if it's going to come out as a story rather than a self-indulgent ramble.

Oh, and at the weekend, I put my name down for an Archive Of Our Own account, and despite being told I should expect something by tomorrow, it actually came through on Sunday. One thing that's been on my list for ages is uploading stories to my website (which exists but isn't fit for public viewing yet), so I think I'll do that in parallel with uploading to AOOO. One thing I like about it is being able to bring my various writing names together - I can tell the archive that "heretoutopia", "jadesfire2808" and "Jadesfire" are all the same person, which is nice. I don't plan to stop posting fic to LJ, but it's nice to have my stories somewhere central as well. Backing things up has never been my strong point, and when I realised what would happen if LJ ever crashed.... Well. Once I could stop breathing into a paper bag, I realised that I really, really need to start getting myself sorted on that front. Hence the website and getting stories squirreled away in as many safe places as possible. Although, like a squirrel, I'm probably going to forget where I put them and end up hunting all over the internet for lost nuts stories.

I've been trying to get my head straight over writing priorities, which is hard when what you really want to do is crochet small flowers. The learning process is going pretty well, although I keep forgetting what stitches are called - I can do them all, but I can't remember when a pattern names a stitch, which of them I'm meant to be doing. I may need a crib sheet...

Anyway, on the writing front, I'm not going to get my Fandom Free For All stories done on time, so I need to do some shuffling to make sure they get slotted in between my firm deadlines. Hmmm...I'm also going to need a PodBang extension.

Firm deadlines right now are:
10th December: [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa
11th December: [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood
21st December: [livejournal.com profile] yuletide

Everything else is negotiable, and is going to have to wait in the plot bunny corrall until I can find time to play with them. More carrots not required. These critters are big enough as it is!

How's everyone else doing? Did we all survive Monday intact?

*boggles mildly* Do you mean you don't have your stories anywhere other than LJ? I'm such a compulsive backer-upper of my creative stuff that that's just hard for me to imagine. (Though I guess my meta and such is LJ-only ... well, backed on DW now, I guess.)

As with most things, there's a story behind that. You see, most of what I know about technology, I learned for myself by reading teh intarwebs. And in most of that, there are words and phrases that I don't know and I just assume they mean something to someone and eventually I'll work it out. Unfortunately, one of those phrases for years was "back up". Somehow, I got it into my head that this was some highly skilled, technical activity like programming or something like that, and that you had to *know* how to do. I never had anyone to explain to my that what it really meant was "keep your stuff in more than one place"...

So yes, I'm currently trying to get my stuff sorted out and backed up - my DW account has got most of my stories in now (although I need to start actually using the damn thing properly) and I do have copies on our desktop at home, but it's a long, slow process when you've never done it before!

Heh, yeah, that makes sense! I guess I'm just compulsive about saving stuff ... very packratty. I write all my stories on my home computer, and keep all the documents afterwards (including all the fragments that I cut out of the finished stories and research notes from writing them); I have an external hard drive where I back stuff up, *plus* I make DVDs. (Though I guess if the house burned down I'd be screwed ... I'm so compulsive that I'm thinking about getting ANOTHER cheap external hard drive and backing everything up so that I could keep it somewhere outside the house. I think this is probably going a wee bit overboard.) Whenever I hear about people who lose vital data when a USB flash drive gets corrupted or their LJ goes down, I freak out a little bit because I'm SO anal about saving everything.

The one thing I'm not is particularly organized, which means that when I do have to go to a backup DVD, I have to hunt through a million of them to find anything. XD
