Considering it's Monday and I felt like death warmed over when I got up, today is going surprisingly well.

~ I had the lurgy over the weekend, but still managed to have a nice weekend. We went to see a friend in Swindon and ended up having lunch at this pub, which was lovely. Very friendly, quite cheap and well-cooked, local food (apart from the fish, Wiltshire being landlocked an'all).

~ Despite still feeling rotten yesterday, I did manage to get things done. We also went and picked up my new bike \o/ It's a cheap little rusty thing from eBay, but it'll do nicely. Since we're due sunny weather this week, it seems like a good chance to get back into the habit of cycling to and from work.

~ I earned some extra cash last week, and spent the proceeds on Amazon. The parcel arrived this morning containing:
Stitch'n Bitch, the Happy Hooker
201 Crochet motifs and blocks
Cabaret CD and DVD
New electronic scales (to replace the ones I tried to cook)

The box is also the perfect size for my Ravelry yarn swap, so that's a nice added bonus.

~ I got lots of work done last Friday, and am getting more done this morning. That may not sound like much, but it's pretty huge for me.

~ It's sunny! *basks*

~ I got some good news that I wasn't expecting.

~ I got a flier for a party that made me smile. Last weekend, for Purim, the Jewish Studen Centre here in Oxford organised a Latin American themed party, "with samba & klezmer sound, South American food, drinks & fabulous feathers & costumes, megillah reading & hamantashen". With [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts popping up all over my flist this morning (with all kinds of awesome works, go check it out!), it sounded like an awesome party/carnival/thing.

Oh, also, we have made this recipe 4 times now, and I think I could eat it 4 times a week and not get tired of it (we do it with egg fried rice rather than the lettuce etc). Utterly nom-worthy.

It might just be a good week after all...

I learned to crochet from a borrowed copy of The Happy Hooker, and yes, it's awesome. Mostly though, I'm drooling over the blocks and motifs book - I want to make everything in it! I may just have to start at the beginning and work my way through :)

It's lovely here right now. Long may it continue!

That recipe looks fabulous! And the great thing about a rusty bike is no one tries to steal it. :)

I also had some spare cash this weekend and splurged on a rice cooker. We've both been working so much this year that a "set it and forget it" cooking helper could save my sanity at supper time.

Heh, that's true about the bike, although in Oxford, you never know. Remind me to tell you about the one that got away then came back...

Ooh, shiny. I've been reading about using a rice cooker as a slow cooker and starting to have gadget-lust. It seems like a really good idea - perfectly cooked rice AND meals in one handy pot! You must tell us all about it when you get going :)

The idea that vegetables could be steamed in it and it can be used to cook steel-cut oats sold me on it. I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do.

Hooray for your day going well!

I'm making myself interact - I think it's working... Next stop dog walking in the park with actual real people. *Takes a calming breath*

It dipped BADLY in the middle, thanks to my tendency to self-immolation, but it's got better again.

How are you doing? Any better this evening?

You poor darling. *hugs*

I am much improved - more like I have border line stage fright now rather than the full blown 'thing' it was this morning.

It will be a good week! ♥ Because there are good people in it.

That recipe... oh, wow. I would eat that, yes. Eat a lot of it.

♥ I'll email properly tomorrow, but I'm a little brain-dead tonight.

It's utterly nom-worthy and sooooooooo easy to do. The beef comes out so beautifully, and you can use a fairly cheap (although not stewing) cut. I'm thinking that you could also use it as a marinade for something like tuna, which is probably easier to get hold of in your part of the world? It'd be great with noodles!

Yay for a good week! And hearing that purimgifts is showing up on your flist makes me happy :-) I always feel like it's very self-contained, and I love whenever non-participants mention it or comment.

Fortunately, several of my flist are taking part, so it pops up here and there. I love the fact that everything's over at AO3, for lo, I am lazy, and like things all in one place ;)

Someone lent me the Stitch'n Bitch book to learn to crochet from, so it'll me nice to a)give her it back and b)have a copy I can write on! Have you made anything from it? I was chuffed to bits with my one-skein scarf.

Not yet, but I SO wanna make the "Violet Beauregard" skirt (just in different colors, lol). Oh, and the "Exchange Bag" is on my ever-growing list of things I want to make. OH AND the "Fluffy Bunny Slippers." ::sigh:: :P
