Day 12

In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a podfic, an icon, a sketch, a meta, or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Cross stitch. Draft an essay about a particular medium. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of book you love, a ship manifesto, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Create something.

Given my current energy levels, I'm cheating a bit with this one, but I am, at least, taking myself out of my comfort zone. I'm far too out of it for writing, and my throat is too sore to risk podficcing. I can't draw a circle around a penny, but something I loved doing for #ITPE was making podfic covers.

I like to listen to podfic as an audiobook, as especially for long ones, it lets me stop in the middle and keep my place. But with so many on my phone, I find covers important for telling what I've got, and what I might like to listen to. So I've started making them for other people's podfic as well. I hope they don't mind!

I've got a bunch of them on my iPad that I'll get around to posting eventually, but for now, this is for copperbadge's White Collar AU, Never Leave a Trace. The podfic is by Rhea, and it's a really excellent reading that I thoroughly recommend.

Now I've been brave enough to post this, hopefully I can get up the nerve to post the others as well!

This is great! I bet authors will love them. I've got in the habit of making fic banners for longer fics at AO3 because they're better for promoting at Tumblr (visuals always do better) and you can add them to Pinterest etc. I make fic 'covers' for my original works at Wordpress for the same reason, eye catching and promotional material :) So I think it's great that you're doing this for yourself and for other people, and I hope it helps people find the podfic they're looking for, and helps promote the works further :

I hadn't thought about the impact on Tumblr vs other platforms! But yes, I definitely look out for a good cover on Tumblr, so I'm much encouraged, thank you :D

Cover art is such a fascinating and complicated thing, trying to represent and advertise a story in a single image. I've never come across this fic, but now I want to know what happens :-).

It’s been a fun thing to have a go at. I think it falls in the same field as writing summaries (something else I quite enjoy) where you have to try to cut right to the essence of the story and be intriguing without giving anything away.
