jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Book with key)
Since I'm back at work and wishing I was still on holiday, I thought I'd drop in a few links from where we were over the weekend. Since we're not very good at taking photographs, hopefully the pictures in the links will give you an idea of what we saw (and ate - food is always an important feature of the holiday)

We really fell in love with the Peaks, especially since they're only 2.5 hours away, and I get the feeling it's going to be a regular destination.

Wow, that turned out longer than I'd intended, but it's good to have it all written down so I can remember how much we enjoyed ourselves. Now, back to reality. To Do lists won't write themselves, you know...

We're back! For those who aren't on Twitter - I love being able to post to it from my phone! - on Saturday morning, I was whisked away on the Eurostar to Lille for the weekend, which was just awesome. I have photos and stuff of course, but we only got back at midnight last night and my brain still isn't working properly. Once I've had some coffee, I shall tell you all about it.

In the meantime, what did I miss? Did anyone break anything? I've got some superglue around here somewhere, and there's always string in the kitchen drawer. When I'm suitably caffeinated, I shall probably try to get back to Friday night and catch up *pauses for hysterical laughter*, but I'm bound to miss something, so please drop in and say hi. [ETA: So, it turns out that skimming to avoid spoilers means my flist feels really, really quiet] I'm not caught up on Torchwood yet, so no spoilers, thanks - I've got today off, so once the case is unpacked, I can settle in with the computer and the iPlayer :)

*waves madly* I had a fabulous time, but it's nice to be home ♥

*looks over shoulder*

I'm not really here, honest. Just dropping 3 quick things then running off to have a real life while the sun is shining.

#1. We're going to Morocco! We've booked our flights to Marrakech *happy dance* Anyone who wants to recommend things to do is more than welcome to! Can't wait :D

#2. The [livejournal.com profile] artword Round Robin stories are going up over the next few days. I added the ending, title and summary to Lost In Communication, and will be advertising the one I kicked off once it's up. Which should be soon, so advance apologies for spamming. The whole round robin thing was a mixed blessing - I don't regret taking part, but it wasn't the easiest fic fest I've ever signed up for. Doesn't mean it wasn't worth it though - writing outside my comfort zone is definitely good for me - and I can't plug [livejournal.com profile] artword enough!
[#2.1 Voting is still going for the Last Fic Writer Standing contest over at [livejournal.com profile] sgahcchallenges I'd be intrigued to know if anyone knows which one's mine...]

#3. My NaNo is dead. I'm alright with that, because it just wouldn't have worked. I'll probably give it a few days to settle, then go and start something completely new. My main problem is working out what I want to say about my main character. I can't write to plot, and I can't just write a character. I have to want to say something about him/her/them, and that's what I'm not sure about right now. I'll figure it out, but it's going to take me a little while.

How's your weekend going? Having fun?
jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Random - Ten/Hello)
I like wandering round LJ, I really do. People fascinate me, and I could pretty much spend all my time, ever, sitting in a cafe in the middle of Oxford watching them. And I have a tendency to follow links at random and read journals of people I don't know. Mostly, this is fun. Today...ack. The trouble with being interested in people is that you have a tendency to get too caught up in their stuff, and forget it isn't yours. Especially when you don't even know who they are. *sigh* A week of watching BBC World News didn't help. There reaches a point where you just have to click away/turn off.

So rather than flail and weep and curse the computer. Or rather after flailing and weeping and cursing the computer (dontcha just love hormones?) I figured I'd do something positive and post about the holiday instead :)

What I did on my holiday by Jadesfire )

Of course, what I didn't do on holiday was write. So time to get cracking on that. But first:

Another meme! Oh yes. I'm back )

I've decided I'm not doing a DW reaction post, since I both enjoyed and hated the episode. My mental state is such that I got kind of caught up in it and nearly broke J's fingers, but looking back, I didn't like it that much. I think it's mostly me, rather than it, so I shall wait until I have a clearer head.

*re-reads post* Oh yes. The rambling is back :)

ETA: *flails* I forgot to say! I went to school with one of the actors from last night's Doctor Who! Cut for character name only ) How cool is that???? Possibly only for me, but still. I'm excited. :D

Hello, yes, I'm back, did you miss me? Holiday was lovely, thanks for asking - more later. At the moment I'm still trying to work out how on earth I catch up with you lot...

My theory was to set my friends page to 'journals only' and happily scroll back through everything. The problem with this theory was that by the time I'd got 100 entries back, I was still only on 6th September. So my new theory is to use my profile page and just click on each of your journals in turn and skim through them. So I'll definitely get through Becky and Chrys's okay, but unfeathered and xwingace, you may have to excuse me if my typing skill are not up to much later on. I also plan to put all fic links in one place and read them over later.

If anyone has some recs for me, that'd be great - there's no way I'm getting through all the comms. Not with my sanity intact, at least. Doesn't have to be fic - just fun and fandom that you think I might enjoy.

The promised 'more about the holiday.' Cut for length and use of footnotes. )

Today is for catching up on chores, washing, LJ etc and trying to get ourselves sorted for going back to work while hanging onto the holiday spirit. So I'd love to hear from you all, let me know how it's going and what you're all up to!

It's good to be back :D
