I've had to have a tidy up of my friends list, purely for self-preservation - I can't be skipping 100 entries every morning to see what everyone's up to. And there are people who I thought were on the list who turned out not to be. So.

I don't think I trimmed my list too drastically, and I don't think I write anything fascinating enough under friends-lock that anyone will be too disappointed. I'm half-expecting to get a lot of sighs of relief...

Friends lists are funny things, and very personal - I'm taking my time about friending back at the moment, mostly due to a down-turn in the amount of time I have to read. So friend or defriend (that's a verb? seriously?) at will, and I will do the same and (hopefully) no hard feelings.

I think that 'to friend' is a verb in the same way that 'to Google' and 'to Facebook' are... =)

I really admire you doing that - I just do. I need to do that over here, and I just don't have the nerve. Maybe I'll make it a New Year's resolution.

I figure people who are miffed about it can let me know, but people who know me will get it. It was a bit "Gulp...should I do this?" but I'm missing stuff I really want to see, and am too swamped to read anything really. So, scary but worth it. Until I get flamed ;)

If anyone flames you, I'm sure those people who do know you will circle the wagons, because you're right - very much necessary for your own peace of mind.

...And saying this to you is good for me. *wanders off to contemplate and grow a spine*

It was pretty much a matter of closing my eyes and hitting 'post' and it took me half an hour to word the message...

And thanks :)

Trimming your friends list of journals you don't really read or don't have anything in common with anymore is always awkward. Mine's fairly huge but I just tend to find people genuinely interesting. I just haven't had to think about doing one yet.

But I know how hard it is, which is why I leave a little note in my profile that basically says 'feel free to defriend me if we've fandom drifted or through general apathy.'

It's defintely one of those squirmy things, but things do drift - I can't help wondering if there's a sense of relief that someone's done it so you don't have to, if you see what I mean...

It is, and I know I'm not going to enjoy when or if I eventually have to do it.

Yes, I think I know what you mean, I've been defriended by people that I probably wouldn't have kept. But I've also been defriended by people I was finding quite interesting and amusing and afterwards did the slightly bewildered bit. But I try not to take this stuff to heart, after all, since some people really just use their flist as a reading list.
