jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Happy - Don in glasses)

For the first time in a few years, my mother didn't text me to remind me to put the clocks forward. So, of course, we forgot, and I only realised when I rolled over, put the radio on and heard "this is the news at eight o'clock".

It's not too bad for me, since I knew I was going to be spending the morning curled up having some quality time with a hot water bottle, but the other half was distinctly underwhelmed. Still, I think he was only about half an hour late for church...

But I refuse to believe I'm the only one, hence the following poll:

[Poll #1162863]

In other news, Radio 4 listeners, if you haven't already, you have to listen to this. Tag line: Radio 4 news hit by giggling fit . Brilliant stuff. I've heard her crack up on the News Quiz before now, but it was hard to work out what set her off in that article. Apparently someone said that the featured recording sounded like a bee buzzing in a bottle. Why this was quite so hysterical, I have no idea, but it's a brilliant two minutes of radio :)

Other fun stuff I've seen lately includes:

A Joe Flanigan portrait at the About Face book project. (portfolio 3, picture 1) All the portraits are gorgeous, but I had it on slideshow and actually jumped when his came up. There's something about his expression in it that's really startling.

This story by [livejournal.com profile] xparrot. Even if you only have the vaguest awareness of Anne McCaffrey's 'Pern' novels, this is worth the read. The tone is so incredibly spot on, especially 'Shepparth'.

samantharichter's reading of 'They grip the ground' by giddygeek. It's possible that I'm becoming addicted to audiofic, but this is a great reading of a very funny story.

The Captain's Blog just keeps getting better. I must go through and copy them all into one document so I can find them when I want them. Whoever's writing it has the best job in television and I want it! *sulks*

Stories will start being posted to [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon tomorrow, so I definitely recommend adding it to your watch list. There's a startling lack of genfic in SGA (even Torchwood has more), so I can't wait! 55 stories! All Gen! Hoorah! I'd also love to know if anyone can spot my story - anyone who didn't see the accidentally unlocked first draft, that is...*facepalm*

Today's jobs include 2 lots of beta-ing, sorting out bank accounts, switching round icons (I want my 'Jack in chains' one back, as well as one that says 'hello'), trying to buy some glasses for both me and the other half, and seeing if my Big Bang story is actually dead or if something can be salvaged. But for now, the sun is shining and the flat is quiet, so I'm going to see if my throat will let me get some recording done. I might even consider getting dressed...

Have a good Sunday, everyone!

I spent a good hour being narked that I'd gone and been all awake at 8am. Then I saw a post on my flist going "clocks forward" and thought, oh...
Can't work out how to turn the video clock forward, and it's the only clock in the living room.

What is it about video clocks? I have to get the other half to do ours, because the sequence of buttons on the remote seems to follow no kind of logical order.

*grin* I did the same thing, being all proud for waking up at 7 (when I normally have to get up on a Sunday) without help. Then I heard the news...

As the sentence I am currently trying to read goes "it is important to note that the thematic of the genre is breaking into a discursive heterogeneity homologous to the transformations of the form itself,' I am beginning to think that getting up wasn't my best move. Yurk.

There is not one button on the video remote that looks promising. Bah.

Our video remote has a button with a picture of a sun, for use in moving the clock forward or back :)

Luckily I didn't have anywhere to be this morning, so it didn't matter what time I got up. But I woke at my usual time anyway - about eight-thirty (so actually seven-thirty, but hey).

The Captain's Blog is fantastic. I don't know why we don't get it on the UK site *pouts* And yes, I definitely want that job...

Have a nice day beta-ing/recording/playing with icons/etc. We're off to have lunch at Y Mochyn Du (nice Welsh pub the opposite side of Bute Park), then S wants to catch the waterbus down to the Bay... It's lovely and sunny here as well, so I have no objections to this plan :)

Ooh, that sounds like a lovely day. Having spent the morning communing with the hot water bottle, I've spent the afternoon communing with the duvet. *sigh* But am feeling much better for it, so it's not all bad :)

Hope it stayed sunny for you!

I was reminded to turn my clock forward, but then I slept for about 2 hours longer than usual as well. It's a good thing I don't have to get up for anything this Sunday!

I forgot and thus completely missed a job I'd booked, but then I called to see how much shit I was in and it turned out they'd screwed up and left me off the list, so it was a good thing or I'd have had a wasted journey. Plus they paid my nonrefundable train fare. Which later turned out to be refundable after all. Cha-ching!

Our clocks went forward about a month ago. I'm still trying to adjust. Getting up while it's still pitch-dark=very unhappy Terry. As the days get longer anyway, it's starting to get a little better. A very little.

I remember seeing all the messages last month. It does seem a bit early. It's already light here at 6am, even on the new time, so we don't notice so much, but that early really sucks.

See, ours were supposed to go BACK an hour, but then, the government decided that they'd like to extend daylight saving for another week, so we're now completely out of sync with the rest of the planet. Of course, no one bothered to tell the computer that, so for the next week, my computer's going to be an hour earlier than the rest of the state.

They are!! It's a freakin' conspiracy!!! The clock on my computer is saying 9:38pm now, and I thought it's early, then I just realised, that no, it's actually 10:38! Which means, it's perfectly reasonable for me to go to bed now.

*sigh*

Hee. Keeping track of which countries your flist is in can be confusing at times :) I got really confused a few weeks back when the US people were complaining about it, so it's even more embarrassing that I forgot this morning...

We have a lovely thing called a self-adjusting clock, it gets the time from radio signals and checks against that ever hour or so which means that the clock is always right. Without it we would be buggered! I turned up an hour early to work once - on the Monday after the clocks had gone back!

Ooh, we have them at work, and they save so much time (pun intended)

And wow, that's quite the achievement...must have been a quiet Sunday! I'm fine now, but I keep finding non-adjusting clocks and having a moment's 'huh?' before I remember.

I remembetred to put the clocks forward, thanks to being reminded, but I still woke up late-ish. Thank goodness I don't work Sundays.

The Captain's Blog is hilarious - I love the little asides. For some reason, I love the bit about Tosh and the bouquet from Something Borrowed.

Good luck with today - sounds like quite a full day!

Fortunately I wake up early anyway, else the church would have been short one bassist!

It turned out to be a sleepy day, so I'm trying to make up for it by beta-ing like mad now. I have your story, and will see what I can do :)

The U.S. went forward some weeks ago, and it seemed like a larger than usual number of people forgot to switch their clocks because the change was coming too early.

I hate getting up in the dark, so I'm still grumbling about it all.

It did seem awfully early when you guys did it. I mean, it's been getting light at 5am through the last week, so I'm still going to be getting up in the light at 6.30. Much earlier than that, though, and I definitely would be moaning.

well, we changed clocks a few weeks ago here and since I work on Sundays I made sure I did so! (although I'll admit to relying on a tad more caffeine than usual that day to get going in the morning)

Yay for SGA genfic! (And I'm massively looking forward to reading the final version of yours!)

Holy cow, that *is* the rather severe-sounding (but very funny) woman from the News Quiz! She looks so young and wholesome. I'm always surprised when I see photographs of the people I hear on the radio.

I love the giggling clip, and I love the fact that they were inundated with requests to replay it. (And I miss the News Quiz! I get the podcast, but right now they're playing the Now Show instead, and it's harder for me to follow.)

I hope you feel better soon.

The giggling is wonderful. I've heard lots of the news readers completely lose it on the News Quiz, which is always entertaining :)

I hadn't thought of the Now Show not making as much sense - I guess they don't explain things as much, which makes it trickier if you don't know the context.

Considering I'm back at work, I'm not doing too badly, although I'm in denial about how much catching up I've got to do ;)

The giggling even made it onto the NewsPod for the 28th! Hee.

I can't figure out exactly what it is that makes the Now Show harder to follow - you're probably right about context, though I don't think it's events and culture as much as that I just don't understand the format. I don't really know what they're *doing*. They talk about current events and sing songs? With very little transition between whatever the parts are?

...Oh. You know, it probably would have been a good idea to try reading the description on the website. Apparently it's "a mix of standup, sketches and songs." That actually helps! Heh. It's not a quiz or panel show.

Don't mind me. :)
