Show of hands

For the first time in a few years, my mother didn't text me to remind me to put the clocks forward. So, of course, we forgot, and I only realised when I rolled over, put the radio on and heard "this is the news at eight o'clock".
It's not too bad for me, since I knew I was going to be spending the morning curled up having some quality time with a hot water bottle, but the other half was distinctly underwhelmed. Still, I think he was only about half an hour late for church...
But I refuse to believe I'm the only one, hence the following poll:
[Poll #1162863]
In other news, Radio 4 listeners, if you haven't already, you have to listen to this. Tag line: Radio 4 news hit by giggling fit . Brilliant stuff. I've heard her crack up on the News Quiz before now, but it was hard to work out what set her off in that article. Apparently someone said that the featured recording sounded like a bee buzzing in a bottle. Why this was quite so hysterical, I have no idea, but it's a brilliant two minutes of radio :)
Other fun stuff I've seen lately includes:
A Joe Flanigan portrait at the About Face book project. (portfolio 3, picture 1) All the portraits are gorgeous, but I had it on slideshow and actually jumped when his came up. There's something about his expression in it that's really startling.

xparrot. Even if you only have the vaguest awareness of Anne McCaffrey's 'Pern' novels, this is worth the read. The tone is so incredibly spot on, especially 'Shepparth'.
samantharichter's reading of 'They grip the ground' by giddygeek. It's possible that I'm becoming addicted to audiofic, but this is a great reading of a very funny story.
The Captain's Blog just keeps getting better. I must go through and copy them all into one document so I can find them when I want them. Whoever's writing it has the best job in television and I want it! *sulks*
Stories will start being posted to
sga_genficathon tomorrow, so I definitely recommend adding it to your watch list. There's a startling lack of genfic in SGA (even Torchwood has more), so I can't wait! 55 stories! All Gen! Hoorah! I'd also love to know if anyone can spot my story - anyone who didn't see the accidentally unlocked first draft, that is...*facepalm*
Today's jobs include 2 lots of beta-ing, sorting out bank accounts, switching round icons (I want my 'Jack in chains' one back, as well as one that says 'hello'), trying to buy some glasses for both me and the other half, and seeing if my Big Bang story is actually dead or if something can be salvaged. But for now, the sun is shining and the flat is quiet, so I'm going to see if my throat will let me get some recording done. I might even consider getting dressed...
Have a good Sunday, everyone!

Date: 2008-03-30 09:54 am (UTC)Can't work out how to turn the video clock forward, and it's the only clock in the living room.

Date: 2008-03-30 10:03 am (UTC)*grin* I did the same thing, being all proud for waking up at 7 (when I normally have to get up on a Sunday) without help. Then I heard the news...

Date: 2008-03-30 10:45 am (UTC)There is not one button on the video remote that looks promising. Bah.

Date: 2008-03-30 11:32 am (UTC)The Captain's Blog is fantastic. I don't know why we don't get it on the UK site *pouts* And yes, I definitely want that job...
Have a nice day beta-ing/recording/playing with icons/etc. We're off to have lunch at Y Mochyn Du (nice Welsh pub the opposite side of Bute Park), then S wants to catch the waterbus down to the Bay... It's lovely and sunny here as well, so I have no objections to this plan :)

Date: 2008-03-30 05:09 pm (UTC)And wow, that's quite the achievement...must have been a quiet Sunday! I'm fine now, but I keep finding non-adjusting clocks and having a moment's 'huh?' before I remember.

Date: 2008-03-30 02:13 pm (UTC)The Captain's Blog is hilarious - I love the little asides. For some reason, I love the bit about Tosh and the bouquet from Something Borrowed.
Good luck with today - sounds like quite a full day!

Date: 2008-03-30 05:09 pm (UTC)It turned out to be a sleepy day, so I'm trying to make up for it by beta-ing like mad now. I have your story, and will see what I can do :)

Date: 2008-03-30 05:11 pm (UTC)Thanks! I can't believe I actually got it done in the end, but if I can do that one, I can do the Big Bang. I have to believe this...

Date: 2008-03-31 12:19 am (UTC)I love the giggling clip, and I love the fact that they were inundated with requests to replay it. (And I miss the News Quiz! I get the podcast, but right now they're playing the Now Show instead, and it's harder for me to follow.)
I hope you feel better soon.

Date: 2008-03-31 10:38 am (UTC)I hadn't thought of the Now Show not making as much sense - I guess they don't explain things as much, which makes it trickier if you don't know the context.
Considering I'm back at work, I'm not doing too badly, although I'm in denial about how much catching up I've got to do ;)

Date: 2008-04-01 08:22 pm (UTC)I can't figure out exactly what it is that makes the Now Show harder to follow - you're probably right about context, though I don't think it's events and culture as much as that I just don't understand the format. I don't really know what they're *doing*. They talk about current events and sing songs? With very little transition between whatever the parts are?
...Oh. You know, it probably would have been a good idea to try reading the description on the website. Apparently it's "a mix of standup, sketches and songs." That actually helps! Heh. It's not a quiz or panel show.
Don't mind me. :)
