*prods flist*

Anyone alive out there? It's all gone quiet... Well, apart from on the building site next door where it sounds like they're banging Thor's hammer against the scaffolding.

But the sun is shining, I got my Latin fic done, I cracked and bought myself 'real' coffee so I don't have to drink fairtrade instant any more (*shudder*), I'm reading some fun genfics over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon*, there is hope on the horizon, my Big Bang story is coalescing into something writable, and Virgin radio are playing "Two Princes" which makes me feel 16 again. (they've followed it up with an hour of awesome tunes *sings quietly to self while dancing in chair*) ETA: Ooh, also, I'm happy because we've belated realised that Hotel Babylon is brilliant and fun and something we both like, and has Lucy Saxon in! We're so going to have to find the first two series now.

What's making you happy today?

Also - people who have friended me lately, drop in and say hello! I have coffee (see above) and biscuits and would love to meet you properly :) Tell me something random about yourself. What's your favourite ice-cream flavour? What's the craziest colour you've ever dyed your hair? Crunchy or smooth peanut butter? Is the glass half-full or half-empty? Superman or Batman? And lots of other questions...

Geez...can you tell I'm bored?

*Go have a read! Author guessing is now open :D

Making me happy today: puddles and wellies! Non-tornadic storm systems. The promise of tea and a snuggly cat and stuffed animals when I get home, and if I finish grading papers in time, knitting with really soft silky yarn.

And Superman. No question. :)

ETA: also making me happy - I finally marked out some time to practice reading podfic. It's going to take a lot more practice, and I'm not entirely satisfied with my tech setup, but I had an epiphany about the reading itself. :)

What sort of epiphany?

(Also Superman. No question.)

It was about how my attitude affects how I actually sound. It's common sense, because I've been a receptionist and I know about phone voices and how people really can hear you smiling or whatever, but I hadn't make the connection with reading fiction aloud.

Ooh, that sounds like a lovely day - hope you got everything you wanted :)

And yay on the podfic front! Attitude makes an enormous difference. I find that the microphone picks up nuances that I didn't know I was putting in, at least when my head's in the right place for it. Does this mean we'll be hearing from you soon? I need to find some suitably obscure fandoms if I'm going to score a decent number of points at [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon. Either that or record an absurd number of stories!

[icon snap! :D]

Well, the non-tornadic aspect of the storm systems was short-lived (I'm so not surprised) but I think everything else worked out very nicely!

I think so too! And when I *don't* have those nuances, somehow the microphone makes them sound more noticeably absent. Right now I'm working on getting my head in the right place and practicing over and over. (I think I should have chosen a shorter story if I'm trying to improve it line-by-line. Oy.) I want it to be perfect, but I also know it's probably never going to be there, so deciding when to stop and gather up my courage is going to be the key. I have til...June, is that right?

Your recording rate has been impressive so far!

I've been thinking about how to get you some more points! The only thing I have that might be useful is one Bones fic that's gen - it would be worth 5 fandom/pairing points. Though I suspect you might not know the show, and I don't know how comfortable you are recording outside of your viewing/reading experience.

I also thought I could set myself a writing challenge for some things that are unrepresented in the archive, but I don't know if that will happen. We'll see. Chronicles of Narnia could be fun! Caspian/Drinian slash has got to be unrepresented. (Kidding. And I think *any* Narnia pairing would be unrepresented.)

Just thinking out loud. La la la. :)

Gah, sorry for the editing, I CANNOT get that link html right.

I wasn't going to venture outside my known fandoms, and go for volume rather than new fandoms, especially since one of the mods just told me I can claim double points for Torchwood/Who fusions. Woo-hoo. That's gonna help :)

Still, I've been meaning to pick up Bones for a while, so maybe I'll go on a YouTube hunt...Thanks!

*blinks* Narnia slash...eep! Someone pass the brainbleach ;D But it could indeed be fun - go for it, while you're on a writing roll!
