Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me but seen all over. I'm going to have fun trotting round replying to this one.

Quote a bit of my fic at me? Find that one fic of mine that you really like, and find a sentence or a paragraph that presses your prose-buttons in the right way, and comment here with it? Don't care how long or short.

All my fics in all fandoms are on this list, or see the sidebar for shorter versions!

Unrelatedly, I'm on the hunt for PG-rated fics in obscure fandoms that I can record for [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon. I'm third at the moment, but only 20 points behind the 2nd placed person, and only 50 behind the 1st placed one, and obscure fandoms and pairings are the best way to really get high points, along with crossovers. Anyone got any suggestions?

Competitive? Me? Surely not! ;)

ETA:

Yesterday, in one of my (several) madder moments, I declared that I felt I was capable of taking over the world with a couple of sheep and a paperclip.

So what do I get in the post this morning?

Photobucket

And on the back? (with writing blurred out - get me and my photo-editing skilz ;))

Photobucket

My plans for world domination are almost complete! Mwahahahahahahaha*coughcough*

Did someone say weird pairings? *g* Try this (http://alyse.livejournal.com/520693.html) one. Lorne/Zelenka weird enough for you? And yes, it is PG.

I'll come back to the quoting thing later when I'm not panicking about being late :)

*grin* I should have known you'd suggest that. I'll go have a look, although SGA scores low generally, what with everyone and their cats being fans ;) Still, it's a fun fic anyway! Thanks :D

Hee, weird pairings I can definitely do. Have a rummage through my mems - I'm not convinced there are that many PG ones though ;) But non-SGA weird pairings - ooh, what about the anti-ship war that [livejournal.com profile] szm did? That had some non-standard pairings. And I've done a couple of TW kissing ficlets that err on the side of odd - shush :P - Tosh/Doctor? Owen/Doctor? Ianto/Owen?

I'm glad you got the postcard - I couldn't resist when I spotted it :)

And ooh, now I've managed to find a bit of prose I like - this was difficult, cos I love all your work, so I went for one that was written for me. What do you mean 'biased'?

Ianto joined him, letting Jack wrap his arms around him, holding him in an almost too-tight embrace. He didn't say anything else, but then he never did. For every secret that he told, everything that he knew and lectured and warned about, Ianto knew that Jack had at least ten more, haunting his dreams and hiding in the shadows of his mind. He'd talk about them when he was ready or when he needed to. Ianto had long since accepted that there were some things he didn't need to know. I adore this whole fic, but especially this section because it just expresses everything I love about Jack/Ianto - quiet acceptance and support, underscored with absolute love. Beautiful.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that. I could always record the various cheese!fics. They've got to score points, if only for sheer lunacy. Thanks :)

*grin* Bias is good. Just...yes, to what you said. Definitely what I was going for. Thank you.

The thought took him over to the bed, frowning down at it. This was the last place he'd been, drifting gently as he waited to die. Crouching down, he lifted the edge of the mattress, smiling in triumph as the key glinted in the dim light. It was cold to the touch, as ever, and after a moment's indecision, Jack pulled out his key ring and slipped it on there. He couldn't bear to have the cold against his skin again, not yet. It would be safe enough in his pocket for now.

That.

You want obscure, but well written? Try the OUATIM fics here:

http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=hippediva

Also the Mexico fic here...

http://pinkdormouse.org.uk/fiction/adult.htm

And should you need an explanation, try this:

Thanks for the crack_van link. I was about to google OUATIM... I'll have a look, but I have a feeling the language might be a bit strong for me. I'm a delicate soul, really :)

Still, if it's good fic, I'm always happy for the link! Thanks :D

I wish I'd read around more - anything in Torchwood or Doctor Who that I've read, you've probably read too. The only obscure thing I have left is Laser Cats/New Testament/Supernatural, which would be a lot of points, but I don't think any of those are your fandoms. :)

(Did you see, somebody really posted Narnia fic - Lucy/Tumnus? Yoiks!)

Also, heeeee! [livejournal.com profile] miss_zedem does rock! That is the cutest and most appropriate postcard ever. And I'm impressed it made it through the post with the paper clip intact!

Find that one fic of mine that you really like

ONE fic? It can't seriously be asking us to choose... :)

*grin* The postcard was in an envelope, but I didn't think teh intarnets needed to see that...

Laser Cats? Seriously? Ooooookay... I've decided to follow the 'rare pairings' route - the anti-ship war has given me lots to play with :) Mostly because although I like the idea of unusual fandoms, I'm having trouble enough with some Torchwood/Doctor Who stories. Although crossovers may also be the way forward, for extra fandom points.

Of course, it's also possible that I've thought about this too much :D

Hee. Memes are eeeeeeeeeevil like that.

Envelope! Of course. Miss Zedem is also smart. :)

Laser Cats? Seriously?

Pure crack, don't worry, one of those "What would be the weirdest combination ever? Jesus and Laser Cats, clearly!" moments. I wasn't seriously suggesting you record it, I know you want to stay in your known fandoms.

Well, it's possible it's less a "fandom" and more [livejournal.com profile] smidgy06, [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnster and me being fans of a ridiculously low-tech series of Saturday Night Live sketches. Hmm, I wonder how many it takes for a fandom? That's one I could actually get my brother to join. :)

The Amplificathon folks seem to be pretty generous in what they'll count as an unrepresented fandom, but I wonder if there's anything so random that it wouldn't count? (Not that I'm going to try anything crazy, just thinking "out loud" at this point. *g*)

I'd love to point you to some Once a Thief stories, but I'm having trouble with the PG part--they tend to be pretty explicit. Ditto Pet Shop of Horrors. Does Phantom Menace count as obscure? There are tons of good Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan stories (ask me if you want some links), or you could pick something from the Sith Academy.

Huh. Unbelievably, Star Wars is an unrepresented fandom. Do you have any Gen links? Or gentle slash?

I'm loving the Sith Academy stories, but I'm not sure I could do them justice - too much dialogue!

I knew you guys would be able to help me :)

Sith Academy is what got me into slash. There are some fabulous stories out there. And I just spent an hour looking for not-too-dialogue-heavy stories without finding any, which is a shame.

I'm not sure Jedi at the Gate will work in audio format, but it would be insanely cool if it did.

More realistically, there'a Consolations, by Yahtzee. Extraordinarily Resilient is a nice story but might be on the longish side; I'm not sure. If you want to be depressed, try Small Sacrifices, by [livejournal.com profile] aeshna_uk, or You're Tender and You're Tired.

And a few other possibilities: Damnation, by [livejournal.com profile] somniesperus; it's a Pet Shop of Horrors/Sandman crossover, which ought to get you a zillion points for originality. And her Devil Wears Prada page has some PG-13 stories; I haven't read any of them, but she's a terrific writer. She's got some gen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory stories as well.

Does Dark Angel give you decent points? I have that DA/Jack crossover, Loving Reminders (http://donutsweeper.livejournal.com/69399.html) I think it's pg-13 though, but I never know how to rate things so it might actually be more pg

and OMG- that postcard rocks! And when I have more than 30 seconds I hope to remember to come back and do your writing meme thing.

I was going to just skim a few of your stories and find a snippet here and there to post, but that's impossible (the skimming part, and the only finding a few snippets parts) so instead I'm going with the fallback that I thought of the moment I saw you post this meme- the section from "jack the weevil and me"

“Mum?”

“Yes, love?” She was humming as she worked, and only looked up when I didn't reply. “What is it?”

I wasn't sure what I wanted to ask, so instead I said, “When Jack arrived, here at the house. Well, doesn’t Dad mind? You know?”

“The kissing?” I nodded and she smiled. “Your Dad’s known Jack a long time and so have I. We’re used to him. It’s just Jack.”

“I just can’t imagine Dad letting anyone else, well…” I trailed off and Mum gave me a sharp look.

“I should think not.” She put the rolling pin down and wiped her hands on a tea towel. “Hywel, you’re going to find that, where Jack is concerned, the normal rules don’t really apply.”

{snip}

“Jack’s not quite what I expected,” I said at last.

{snip}

“Appearances aren’t everything.” Mum finished the pie and looked at me. “Whatever you want to know, I suggest you ask Jack. Now, didn’t you say you had some homework to get done before Monday?”

this whole bit. It's just exactly how I always envisioned Jack, and how those around him might see him too. It's just perfect

This meme is probably better for people who don't churn out fic like it's going out of fashion. Or at least, it's easier on their flists ;)

Thank you so much - the whole point of that story was to get that kind of perspective on Jack. Inadvertantly creating a boy who would turn out to be a pain in the neck was not part of the plan, but you can't have everything :D

Obscure fandoms? Try Heavy Gear. There were only about two dozen of us online.

And, since I am a shameless self-promoter, try my fanfiction.net account. (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/203990/) I reccommend 'Winter Wonderland'. Do bear in mind that I wrote this several years ago, though - it's not up to my current standards!

Or, if crossovers get you extra points, try 'Engage, FAB, Standing By, Etc. Etc.'. Again, an old one.

Edit: It would seem that ff.net has wiped all of my formatting. This is very annoying. If you like the look of any of 'em, tell me and I'll e-mail them to you with the proper formatting.

(/shameless self-promotion)

I love the sheep! May I join you in your diabolical scheme to conquer the world? I can do decent tactics and I bring my own weapons.

I shall be back tomorrow, when I have time, and spend some time looking through your stories to answer the meme. (Really, the meme is just an excuse ;))

Hee. I'll have a look. TBH, I've been looking at the obscure fandoms and going 'huh'? so while it was a nice idea, I might stick to Torchwood, where I at least know how people are supposed to sound ;)

But I'm still going to go look, for curiosity if nothing else. I'd heard that about ff.net's formatting - I should probably go check my own stories there.

And of course you can join in the diabolical scheme. Bring rubber bands ;)
