PSA on Trolling - FANDOM POST!
Nov. 13th, 2008 01:47 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I wouldn't normally do this, but I know my flist spans multiple fandoms and this one's running away with itself.
This post at stop_plagiarism has the full details but here's the short version:
If you see posts on any of your comms accusing someone called Spiletta or Spiletta42 of plagiarism, it is a troll.
The whole thing is terribly out of hand, and extremely vicious (posting of RL details has gone on as well) and mods are stamping on it as quickly as they can. BUT they have to know about it. Please direct them to the
stop_plagiarism post for full details, and if the IP address of the poster can be noted, that would be useful too in tracking the troll for reporting to LJ Abuse.
The person responsible is using the usernames claireandelle1, furqueen[96] (not sure about the numbers) and kittyxpete.
So far, Stargate, Buffy, B5, Torchwood and Doctor Who comms have been hit. The mods at
stop_plagiarism are trying to track everything down so that LJ Abuse can be informed, but the more information, the better.
Also, if you're a mod, check your comm! Most of mine are on moderated status anyway, but if you're not, please keep a close eye on it. What with the shoebox project getting hacked (DO NOT GO TO THE SITE THIS MEANS YOU*), and
copperbadge and others getting attacked recently, it feels like fandom's adopted a siege mentality. Writers who have a higher profile than me (I'm looking at some of my House friends in particular here), please make sure everything's backed up, because these folks are nasty, and they're going after the popular writers.
Remember: You're not paranoid if they're actually out to get you.
*seriously, DO NOT GO TO THE SITE. If you do, run a spyware check IMMEDIATELY. Look after your computer!

Date: 2008-11-13 02:25 pm (UTC)as to the siege mentality - well there are a number of mods (and their blessed cronies) that have been quietly and sometimes not so quietly inflicting their holier-than-thou attitude on several comms - maybe it's the stressing over this stuff - but I can tell you that the atmosphere on some comms is less than stellar *shrug*
thanks for the heads up though

You're welcome :)
