I was going to tell you all about my exciting weekend (shops! escalators! cauliflower"), but I've been hit by the lurgy, so am trying to get all my work done before I go home to curl up with my duvet and the biggest cuddly toy I can find. Let's just say it was good in all kinds of ways and consider this a placeholder for a full post at a later date.
What I will say is that I have the awesomest flist in the history of awesome. I love getting post more than I care to admit, so imagine my excitement to get home on Sunday to find:
- A pretty, pretty postcard from
naye. I definitely get why you like it there! Thank you :D
- A cute, pretty postcard from
rustydog complete with original artwork! I'm saving it so I have an original when she's rich and famous ;) I've stuck it up at work so it makes me smile all day - thanks, hon!
- Cryptonomicon via Amazon from
nnwest. I've wanted to read this for *years* but never got around to it - am going to take it to Morocco with me so that I can really sink into it properly. Thank you!
- A care package from
miss_zedem with many shiny, pretty things. I think it's possible that I'm the most spoiled LJer in history but since I have teeny tiny highlighters which are the cutest thing ever, I'm finding it hard to care... *smishes you*
As usual, in lieu of actual content, have some links:
- Go watch this awesome Jack/Doctor* vid by
hllangel to "I Know Him So Well" sung by John Barrowman and Daniel Boys. It's just...it's like the song was made for this vid. Go watch and squee!
- Go read the LFWS entries now that all has been revealed. My entry was Panacea, and I came a highly respectable 5th considering how quickly I wrote the story and that I didn't have it beta'd.
- What Not To Buy received a very lovely rec over at
torchwood_house. If you haven't explored that comm yet, and if it isn't too weird to rec a rec comm, then let me urge you to do so. I took the newsletters off my watch-list, so I only read from my flist,
calufrax and TWHouse nowadays. This is not a decision I regret.
*Properly Jack/Doctor, covering Nine as well as Ten and working so very, very well
Also, would anyone be able to give a quick turnaround (ie 24 hour) beta on an SGA crack fic, image- and silliness-heavy?
greyias and I are very, very nearly done (assuming we didn't wear out her graphic tablet and/or our brains at the weekend) but we definitely need someone to make sure we're only making fools of ourselves with content, not spelling and grammar as well ;) Can anyone help? *flutters eyelashes becomingly*
How was everyone else's weekend? Do anything exciting? Tell me everything - I'm ill and have nothing else to do.
ETA: LJ appears to have turned my comment notifications off, at least for my own journal. Nice.

Date: 2008-11-24 03:12 pm (UTC)...it's not a long story, just a weird one. Although in my mother's house, nothing seems quite so strange any more. Not after we unrolled the spare duvet to find a broken smoke alarm nestling in the middle of it...
Ooh, that would be awesome, thanks. Will see how Grey's doing and send it along asap. Much appreciated.
Lurgies are rotten, and I'm officially the world's worst patient, so that's going well... More drugs are definitely good, thanks :)

Date: 2008-11-24 03:25 pm (UTC)And thanks for the rec! Nothing Jack/Doctor is complete without both Nine and Ten, because Jack has the same feelings (if not the exact same relationship) for both.

Date: 2008-11-24 03:32 pm (UTC)I absolutely agree with you, but it's amazing the number of fics that ignore the continuity. Nine may only have had one season, but so much important happened, it seems so odd that it gets left out - I see far more Jack/Ten (good Jack/Ten, but so much of it!) than Jack/Nine, although happily not on my flist :)

Date: 2008-11-24 03:58 pm (UTC)I've become pretty bad at reading TW and DW fic. I have the newsletters friended and that's it, but I rarely click on anything that's not a rec or if I recognize the author's name. Otherwise, it's what my flist writes (or friends of friends list, since I sometimes look there too)

Date: 2008-11-24 05:21 pm (UTC)I had an Extremely Busy Weekend of entertaining my brother and sister-in-law while trying to get research papers done. Still working on that. Would *so* much rather be reading your crack fic, which I'm excited about.
BTW, congratulations on LFWS! I did guess your fic correctly - even have in my notes "[I think this is Jades]" :) In general I enjoyed this round more than the others for some reason.
While you're catching up, you can fill out a poll and tell me what kind of card you want! :)
(The postcard arrived quickly! Yay!)

Date: 2008-11-25 10:45 am (UTC)Hee! You know me too well! I think the restrictions of the challenge this time round really made people *think*, which produced a really good crop of stories.

Date: 2008-11-26 06:33 am (UTC)So hopefully you are feeling all better now... but just in case you're not... I wrote (most of) an amusing little crack ficlet and posted it despite it being a bit rough to cheer up various peoples. And hey! You're a peoples! And my home remedy for colds is lots of lying in bed with comfy blankets and silly stories. ... And since I can't provide tea or blankets, I'll just have to give you fic: http://fish-echo.livejournal.com/8190.html?format=light

Date: 2008-11-26 07:47 am (UTC)(I felt guilty for seeming like I was pushing fic on you...)
(Please ignore the silly fish in the corner.)
(What are you doing still reading comments!? You should be eating soup!)
Gaah, try ten billion at posting... LJ evidently has decided that a side of comments would nicely round off its meal of email comment notifications....
