We have lift off! The front page is here, from where you can link to everything else. We also have 45 stories and gajillions of pieces of art (which may contain spoilers, just so you know), which is all kinds of awesome.

My work? Well, just a brief link for now and more details and squee tomorrow. But I've now been at work for nearly 12 hours and am kind of ready to go home. Admiration for artists will also be expressed tomorrow because DAMN these guys are good.

Nothing Else But Change
Torchwood (pre-series) | PG | gen | 27,000 words

Everything changed, everything moved on. Everything except Jack.

Betas: [livejournal.com profile] rustydog and [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper
Notes: My gratitude to my betas cannot be textually rendered. They have held my hand, passed the tissues, corrected grammar and typos, forced me to write better and made sure that I had everything I needed to write this. It's not possible to thank them too much, for services above and beyond the call of duty or friendship. Remaining deficiencies are all my own work.

Art is by [livejournal.com profile] in_the_bottle and [livejournal.com profile] jhava and is just...well. Click through to the story and you'll see why it's so awesome.

Right. Home now. Catch y'all tomorrow.

The world outside my office window is white this morning. It's very pretty from here. It was less fun doing my funky penguin walk through it on the way to work. If it doesn't clear up by lunchtime, no way on earth am I going to Witney tonight (I have Slimming World there on Monday evenings). I'm going home to hot chocolate and my lamb casserole instead.

How was everyone's weekend? Uneventful? Exciting? I spent it cooking, cleaning, then on a 6 mile walk round Port Meadow in the sunshine. Of course, it was freezing cold as well, but it was good to get some sun, especially since the sky is grey all the way down to the horizon this morning.

In case you don't have much going on (everyone's suspiciously quiet at the moment), allow me to find you thinks to occupy your time:

We've got some great authors this year - some old friends, some new but well-known names - and I'd love to see you all there. Trust me, 20,000 words fly by when you get going. We're also going to need some stellar artists to keep up with our writers, so please think about putting your name down for that as well.

This is a 14 day fest for posting fic, recs or artwork about the wonderful women in fandom. So far, my favourite post is this icon one, and I'm thinking of contributing the odd ficlet myself. Do go join in - all lengths, all ratings, all fandoms are more than welcome.

I loved this last year, and turned out what I think is one of the best stories I've ever written for it. The way the prompting works is also really cool, and even if you don't usually write Gen, do have a think about it. You never know what you can do until you try!

I think that's something for everyone. Beating the winter blues, one ficathon at a time :)

I could go into work today. My body decided this is a bad plan, so I'm currently hunting for painkillers and hot water bottles and not shaking my fist at the rain. It's worth mentioning that we've had quite a bit of rain. Not as much as some parts of the UK, but whatever falls upriver eventually comes down to us, so I'm watching the (rising) river levels somewhat anxiously.

Of course, there are benefits to the river as well. Last night, I fed 3 ducks from the living room window, who were shy at first but soon warmed up to me once they realised I had food. I only closed the window again because I didn't want the neighbourhood bat getting in. Having one in our honeymoon cottage was a close enough encounter for me.

This month, [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang are letting writers promote their stories a bit more, with reviews and commentaries and suchlike. I had thought it was an either/or kind of thing, but since people seem to have combined multiple types, I'll probably do the same. So if anyone has any questions about Resonance, ask away! It's a pretty straightforward story, but the writing process was anything but straightforward, and I always enjoy thinking about these things in more depth.

I had more to say, but I had to break off halfway through posting in order to take [livejournal.com profile] major_jim and his shiny new laptop to work (not that I'm jealous or anything...) and I completely lost the thread. If anyone finds it, please send it back. I plan to spend today trying to get my artword story finished, which is going to be easier said than done - it should work, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it doesn't. My instinct is that I'm trying to explain too much, so if people want to drop into [livejournal.com profile] heretoutopia and beat me with the 'show don't tell' stick, I'd be most grateful. ([livejournal.com profile] fish_echo, you should be on the filter now!)

Have a good (and dry) day everybody!

Happy birthday, Becky! Hope you have a calm, non-stressful, lovely day.

I won't see Who when it's broadcast tonight, as I'm at the theatre (a promenade production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in one of Oxford's parks, since you didn't ask), so no squee and definitely no LJ until the morning.

This is a public service announcement:

If you are trying to write SGA fic, it is a seriously bad idea to listen to podfics of fandom classics on the way to work. This will lead to you wanting to cry, hide under the desk, and swear never to touch a keyboard again. Especially if your own story is lacking on the plot front.

That is all.

Days and days ago, [livejournal.com profile] fan_eunice put out a plea for Gwen & Ianto friendship fic. After watching the Torchwood finale, I felt the need to write fluff and the below is the result, posted to [livejournal.com profile] heretoutopia. It would have been up the day of the request, but my betas are evil and wonderful and refuse to let me post things that aren't the best I can do. Have I mentioned lately how much I adore them? *squishes them*

Title: What Not To Buy
Author: [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808
Words: 2,230
Characters: Gwen, Ianto, Jack, Rhys (with only a hint of pairings)
Rating/Warnings: PG/Only for fluffiness
Spoilers: None. Setting is S2, after Meat and before Something Borrowed

Summary: All Gwen wanted was a nice, quiet shopping trip…

What Not To Buy

So, no trauma, no cliff-hangers, just friendship. Nice and peaceful and just what I needed to write right now. Especially since Jack just decided the plot of my Big Bang story was too boring for words, sat down, folded his arms and pointed out that he deserves something much cooler and more exciting and hey! Look! Plot! Have I mentioned lately how much I hate him? *goes in search of big stick*

Beta guys, I'll email you when I've actually written something, since even I'm sick of hearing me whine…
